I know alot of people liked this issue because Mike Grell was doing the artwork, but I don't like Mike Grell. I find his work to be too muddy, everything looked dirty and unpolished. Like he sketched out the drawings, gave it to the inker and walked away. I am surprised that someone let see press being this bad. A lot of his character designs were bad, everyone looked so bland, dull and lifeless. But he did have 2 good pages the ones where Rogue, Kurt and Mystique were talking and they introduced Mystiques new costume (which I really like!)

As for the writing, its decent. Nothing great. It felt to me that Claremont was just writing for the sake of advancing a story that isn't really work out as well as he hoped. Alot of dialogue was pointless and kinda dull. He's changing Kitty and I guess trying to find the voice for her but its not working. I hope he figures it out by next issue cause this was trash. We need the good writing we had for the last 4 issues.

If I gave out a star rating, this would be a 1 star comic. It was crap. I felt bad reading it cause it had been so good up to this issue. I think Grell's artwork ruined what could have been a really pivotal issue for Kitty, and I'll be glad when he is off the book.

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #9

CBR has the preview for the new issue up. Big Thanks to them!

TURNING JAPANESE! Ever since she got a claw of her own, Kitty Pryde’s been feeling …not herself. To put it mildly. And after barely surviving an encounter with the Marauders’ secret weapon, the young X-Man feels a strange, inexplicable pull towards the land of the rising sun. Of course, it can’t be a coincidence that said secret weapon is also stalking the streets of Tokyo, right? It’s gonna take more than just one claw for Kitty to make it through round two!!

<img style="float:left; Havok goes to aid Hepzibah and find that 'Ro and Lockheed attacked her because she attacked Ro. Polaris shows up to let them know that Hepzibah has been taken over by the Marauder, Malice. Havok and Polaris manage to defeat her by removing the choker the contains Malice.

In a desperate attempt to end the fight without anymore causalities, Corsair breeches the surface with the Starjammer, and just obliterates the Marauders with its weaponry.

The end is relatively happy, as no one has died, but Kitty, Ro and Gambit stay behind in Alaska as, Sikorski, the Starjammer Medical Robot patches up Kitty and everyone heads back to New York after a distress call from Daisy Dugan.

After the tremendous last issue, #8 really fell short on the writing. I think CC was trying to put way too much into this issue and it really showed. Alot of scenes were too quick, with explanations not really explained that well. Too many people, mostly Gambit, were jumping from scene to scene when they wouldn't even be close enough to do anything, or even see what was happening.

Ron Lim delivered another good issue of art, really no complaints about his contributions to this issue. I just hope he comes back again soon.

All in all, this should have been a 3 issue arc instead of two. The flow of the issue was too jarring for me but I did enjoy it, just not as good as it could have been.

By the way.. the last page has been totally called by a lot of people and I wonder what ramifications its gonna have in the up coming issues.

I also left out a lot of plot points for up coming story lines. I can't spoil it all you know!

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #8

Thanks to CBR for having this up.

It’s double the danger as Sabretooth fights for his life against….SABRETOOTH!? It was just so awesome, nearly on par with issue 3. Chris Claremont's writing was top notch, and the pace at which everything happens is amazing.

Not to mention bringing on Ron Lim was genius! This issue made me feel like a kid again. I read alot of Ron's stuff when I was first getting into comics and I always loved his style, his Silver Surfer, his work on the Infinity trilogy.. he is such a prefect fit for this title.

Ron Lim brings so much energy to his drawings. The panel where Scalphunter was fighting Raza is so intense, it could have easily been a splash page and still would have been awesome. In fact every panel was like that, the fighting was brilliant portrayed.

Man, there are some great knock abouts in this book. Jean gets her brain scrambled, which I think isn't a good sign. Kurt absorbs some of Arc's power, and the fight between Sabertooth and Clone-Tooth was brutal.

We also get further setup brought up in the last issue by Ghost Panther; Perfect Storm is going to try and annex Genosha. And alot of people have been asking Mr Claremont about Yashida Clan in Japan.. well, he answers it slightly by saying they are coming after Kitty.

By the way, the ending of this comic is insane. The last 5 pages is crazy. Completely left field and never in a million years could I see that coming. I know some people will ask for pixs but I am taking a stance against spoiling this ending. You have to read it and see for yourself. Sorry XMF-fans!

In the end, this was a break neck comic. It moved so fast, that I read it in 5 mins. In fact, after this I'm gonna read it again. I just loved everything that happened in this. I seriously think you could show this issue to non-readers and they would enjoy the hell out of it.

Everything was spot on with this comic. Mr Claremont and Marvel, thank you so much for bringing Ron Lim on this title, I cannot wait for issue 8 and damn you for not releasing it next week.

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #7

Thanks to CBR for having these up, as Marvel is still not sending me these previews.

It’s double the danger as Sabretooth fights for his life against….SABRETOOTH!? Under the cover a severely bad storm in Alaska, he has had his agent; Ms. Hanover, kidnap Nate away while The Marauders lay waste into the Starjammers.

We cut to Genosha where Masque and Callisto are going to meet someone; The Ghost Panther. Who attempting to recruit the Morlocks in to an army he in an attempt to stop a war that is about to break out in Genosha.

Amidst the chaos of the struggle, Corsair is able to escape a deadly confrontation with Sabertooth and teleport to the X-Mansion only to be met by Sabertooth!

Not much to talk about in plot wise for this issues its one of the great X-Men issues where it is 90% action, and its great action. Sadly it makes for a really quick read but I did not mind.

I think since the beginning of the series alot of people wonder which Sabertooth joined the X-Men, as the one on the team is suffering from burnout and cannot regenerate. But the one who shows up in Alaska very clearly has his healing ability; Corsair shots him in the arm and it heals right away.

X-Men Sabertooth does manage to get a new hand, a nice little metallic one from the Starjammers, but nothing can be done about his eyes, maybe he should give Mojo a call and get some implants?

I was stoked to see The Ghost Panther. He alludes to Storm approaching and storm is in bold.. I think we might see Perfect Storm making an attempt to take over Genosha.

There was something that really threw me off while reading the whole comic, the word balloons. The seems to really stand out for some reason. like they were pasted onto the page and then scanned in. Just a minor quibble but it did really stand out to me.

An all out action issue was really needed and the fact that it wasn't bogged down with a lot of other little things made me happy and the Sabertooth vs Sabertooth promo cover looks cool and I am stoked for that fight.

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #6

Moira MacTaggert has paid dearly over the years for her allegiance to the X-Men, but will this latest altercation ask her to pay the ultimate price? Things seem helpless until Kitty rescues 'Ro only to fall victim to a sonic scream from Scarshreik. Things look really bad until Masque's influence wears off Cyke and Remy and manage to hold off the attack.

Back at the Mansion, Jean Grey is still trying to probe Mystique to not so ideal results. Mystique sees this as playing a game and tries to get info out of Jean but accidentally causes her to manifest the Phoenix which scares Mystique and causes Jean to run away urging Nick Fury to send in Kurt and have him absorb Mystiques powers.

Back in the tunnel with the Morlocks more hell is breaking lose as SHIELD Agents strom the tunnels trying to take out the X-Men and the Morlocks. The Morlocks fight back allowing the X-Men to escape but they themselves to be taken captured. As the SHIELD agents are taking the Morlocks out of the tunnels they get ambushed by none other then Callisto!

Wow... this was quite the issue. I didn't touch on three plotlines that appeared in the issue cause I don't want to spoil it all for you, but a lot happens here. There was one really neat panel with 'Ro that alludes to exactly who she is, some us were kinda right but still wrong at the same time.

I don't really care too much for the Morlocks, I understand their use but they are just story fodder. I'm glad their story arc is finished, for now.

The pages of Jean interrogating Mystique were quite good. I seriously think Jean is gonna have a massive freak out/break down that is gonna allow the Phoenix Force to come out fully. And I am sure someone will die from it, or possibly come back! But I still get the feeling that Mystique is gonna use the X-Men for a far more sinister purpose that just reconciling with Kurt and Rogue.

Now at the end, a character appears who I have no idea who he is.. This may be due to my lack of X-Men knowledge but I including a pic of him so if anyone knows who he is, you can let me know. Click Here for Pix! (Yea, I could just goggle him but wheres the fun in that?)

All in all.. a good issue, definitely better then issue 4. Good work Mr. Claremont and Mr. Buchemi!

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #5

I think this is the whole preview, sans the previously in page.

~Enjoy!
-------------

<img style="float:left; And while it was a good issue, it felt like it was pure filler; a moment to pause before things started going again.

The writing was pretty good, but as someone who is not that familiar with the Morlocks, I was a little confused by them, and who they were. Claremont did do a decent job at throwing in some back matter while the characters talked to each other. It was greatly appreciated.

The whole Mystique angle is kinda neat. I never really thought of her as a bad guy. She always seemed to play all sides and would just join whoever suited her needs at the time. I don't know if I believe her on wanting to join the X-Men to make amends to Rogue and Nightcrawler, we'll see. I think she will back stab them at some point.

I really talked up the artwork by Rodney Buchemi last time he drew an issue but something seem off here. On some pages the artwork looks really rushed and on others it looked like he took his time, and these pages really stand out.

There was talk on one panel about possibly bringing in another telepath, and there's only a few telepaths out there to choose from, like to see where this goes.

All in all, not a bad issue. Not as great as issue 3, but a solid read.

PS: The un-inked Grummett cover is some sweet ass work.. I love it. I think I might have to buy it if I can find it.

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #4

CBR has finally posted the preview of XMF2#4 and I had the pages completely out of order.

Check out the proper page layout over at CBR!

X-Men Forever 2 #3

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ShMFiQfXaZU/TD-WlfgIMUI/AAAAAAAAAs0/aLMXekxf8yU/s320/74016comic_storystory_full-8601659..jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494275641270874434" />Picking up from previous issues, Spider-Man has run into Rogue, who is suffering from a severe case of cabin fever, and the two proceed to run about New York fighting crime and are both having a rather good time doing it.

Back in the Mansion though, it has come to Nick Fury's attention that Rogue has left and that has created a potential threat as there are Sentinels out patrolling the immediate area and unknown to either Rogue or The X-Men, are also now patrolling the streets of NYC.

Kitty, Jean and Kurt opt to leave the Mansion to find Rogue and bring her back but are attacked by the new Neo-Sentinels and are saved by Mystique and Jean channeling the Phoenix Force which leaves some people rather "scared".

Sadly, I have to say my description of this comic does not do it any sort of justice. Claremont was firing on all cylinders on this issue.

Balancing out the action, the dialogue, future plot set ups, and minor resolutions was just so dead on that I have to say that this has been one of the best comics I have read in years.

It really shouldn't have worked but scene with Rogue and Spider-Man sitting on a rooftop eating bagels actually felt natural and at all forced. And it was a great scene and I almost wish it played out with getting interrupted.

One thing that got me when I first saw it, were the new costumes for the "Ex-SHIELD" agents who stayed behind at the Mansion. I didn't know who they were til I read the word balloons. I like the costumes, its a great way to distinguish the "Norms" from the Mutants.

Grummett was rocking some awesome art in this. I think he has finally found his groove in this series, damn near everyone looks great. My only real beefs were Daisy Dugan, she looked a little too young and too girly for a SHIELD Agent and Kitty's claw. Depending on the angle and artist, it grows in girth and length.

If Claremont can keep up this caliber of writing from here on out and the artists keep delivering like they have and I think they will. Rodney Buchemi is coming back and Ron Lim (Cannot wait for his issues!)will also being drawing some issues.

Best issue to date, I think it could possibly convert over some of the haters of the previous volume.

Preview: X-Men Forever 2 #3

CBR has put up their preview of XMF2#3.

Looks like we get an explanation of what transpired in those 6 weeks between issue 1 and 2. Speculation is flying around to what exactly happened, why exactly were The Avengers there, and the appearance new Sentinels.

With the death of Nick Fury, a new Director of SHIELD is appointed; Ziggy Trask. Who has taken a new approach with SHIELD, making them more a visible anti-terrorist task force.

With so much being covered up, J. Jonah Jameson sends Peter Parker to the X-Mansion to see what he can find out, and thinks he hears Nightcrawler bamf-ing about but loses him. He later goes out on patrol and runs into Rogue beating up some thugs.

Overall not a bad read, considering the X-Men barely show up in it all. You do see Warren talking to other X-Men characters at his mansion, mostly X-Force and X-Factor, telling them they will continue to find a cure for Mutant Burnout and provided them any support they need.

There's a nice page of Perfect Storm freaking out over their deaths and how she'll never get her revenger against Kitty. This sets up, what I hope, a good Round 2 fight.

You also get a page of plot to kidnap Nathan Summers, and someone infiltrating Senators office gaining information from a SHIELD agent about how they are keeping the X-Mansion under the watchful eyes of Sentinels.

There was a ton of setup in this issue, but sadly, not much payoff. It was a good read, but I could have used more action. It was nice seeing Spidey in the book, not to mention Rogues new costume, its very sexy and revealing.

The writing is at the same level its been at for awhile (which some people still hate) and Grummett's artwork was good as always but.. there is a really odd panel where the news-reporter, who is talking what has transpired in the last 6 weeks, eyes are all messed up. Like some serious lazy eye going on. It really took me out of the story.

I really hope the pace picks up with the next issue because this issue was kinda dull. And has always, I cannot wait for the next issue, cause I have no idea what is gonna happen next.

Preview: X-Men Forver 2 #2

So if anyone is interested, heres the link to CBR's preview of XMF2#2

This is something I've been considering doing to fill in the gaps between release weeks. You get something a little different, some a little the same and some completely unexpected.

The story seems to pick up a scant few hours after the end of Giant Size X-Men Forever, with the team preparing something on the front lawn of the school, when The Avengers arrive, demanding the complete surrender of all the X-Men.

And in typically Marvel cliche, a fight breaks out and during this fight, Thor accidentally nukes 'Ro with a thunder strike, leaving her singed and unconscious on the ground. The Avengers call an immediate end to the fight to tend to 'Ro, who is actually a projection made by Jean which is unknown to The Avengers. During the confusion The X-Men have retreated back to Mansion which suddenly and unexpectedly blows up.

End of Issue....

Seriously though, I did not see that coming and that has been the biggest shock so far in the 27 issues released to date. Nice one Mr Claremont. Killing Tony Stark was pretty big too.

I know I will get asked this, so I will comment on it here: No, jumping on with XMF2 #1 is not by any means a good idea. Way too much as happen so far and other then the opening re-cap page, there is nothing tell you what has happened before. You get mentions of some past arcs but only as means of setting up future story-lines.

Other then the preview pages that have been shown the issue is pretty much 90% fight, with a couple of pages to side story dealing with SHIELD and Trask. There is also a page which I nearly forgot about, that as the return of everyone's favourite mutant geneticist; Mr. Sinister.

Overall I enjoyed the book, ripped through it like a maniac, and I can't wait to go back and read it again before the day is through.

X-Men Forever #23

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ShMFiQfXaZU/TAbg1sHrMCI/AAAAAAAAAsA/gpjZgYELW_w/s320/70192comic_storystory_full-5748071..jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478313209723826210" />When it comes to X-Men, I am probably the last person who would want to talk to about them. Yes, I can name most, if not all of the X-men Characters, but if you want to know about the continuity and the ins/outs of relationships of the characters, I may kill you. Serious.

XMF #23 is the second to final issue of this run (they are doing volumes, Vol 2 starts in June) and not a single answer gets answered, but thankfully no new questions are raised as the X-Men conclude their confrontation with the Neo-Sentinels, The Consortium, and try to stop the Plaque -X Cannon that would wipe out every mutant on Earth.

Some rather big things happen in the issue, as you can probably tell from the cover image. Everyone’s favourite blue-furred mutant genius, sadly, dies. I still think there could have been someway to have save him, Jean Grey could have put a TK shield around and protect, but he gave himself up for the greater good of mutant kind.

Also, a shocker of shockers, Mister Metal Pants Tony Stark, dies as well. I think this is something that may have shocked a lot of people, I know it shocked me when I read it because I was wondering why he didn’t have his Iron Man suit with him. I am hoping Claremont will allude to this in his second volume of X-Men Forever, as I am sure Tony never went anywhere with out one.

At the end of the issue there is a preview for the upcoming X-Men Forever Special, which reunites X-Men with the Shi’Ar. It could be a good read as the Shi’Ar are not all too pleased with Chuck, who accidently allowed the Skrulls to circumvent the Shi’Ar defense and destroy some of the outer colonies.

I really enjoyed this issue. Out of the 24 that have been released, there’s also an annual out, I enjoyed this one the most. Fantastic story-telling accompanied by tremendous artwork. Well worth picking up.

X-Men Forever #24

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ShMFiQfXaZU/TAbe6jngFlI/AAAAAAAAArs/Ugp8zQQpS0Y/s320/xmf24.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478311094317487698" />It's been a year now and the final issue of X-Men Forever #24 as come out and wow.. what a wild ride its been.

XMF #24 is a cool down issue, where readers get a chance to get results, and the writer gets to set-up future plotlines and there are some interesting plotlines set up in this issue for Vol 2 starting in June. I can’t wait for it.

We get another funeral, this time for Beast, which appears to be a bigger deal then Wolverine (as in better attend), wear the West Coast Avengers, former teammates Bobby and Warren , and even the President of the United States (the President isn't shown, so I'm not sure who its supposed to be) but it is a fairly well written few pages. Very touching.

There are some really interesting plotlines established for Vol 2; Nick Fury setting up a black-ops team made up of Remy Picard (Gambit), Sabertooth and Dugan. The revelation that Sabertooth will never grow his eyes back, and may not be able to grow his hand back naturally through his healing factor. And the one that I think was probably one the worst things about the comic, the fact that Kitty has now started dreaming in Japanese. That one came so far out of left field that it doesn't make sense.

X-Men Forever #24 has been one the best written issues out the 25 issues published to date. The artwork was gorgeous, you can't go wrong with Grummett on art. I'm said to see volume 1 end but I know volume 2 starts in 3 weeks with Giant-Size X-Men #1 coming out June 6.

I highly suggest jumping on board. It’s a great series that really isn't bogged down by too much continuity, and billions of characters like the regular 616 X-Men.

Giant-Size X-Men Forever #1

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ShMFiQfXaZU/TAbO84NjzRI/AAAAAAAAArk/2_-xbYeHUzY/s320/69372comic_storystory_full-5834899..jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478293542019517714" />Now here is what should have been issue 25 of X-Men Forever, even at the end its says, End of Volume 1, but this issue didn't fit the flow and feel established by issue 24.

Giant-Size X-Men Forever #1 gives the reason why Professor X will not present in Volume 2, well at least not for the first few arcs.

Apparent the last time the X-Men were in Space and ran across the Shi'Ar, Charles monkeyed with the security systems and left them unwillingly open to attacks by the Skrulls, Good work Chuck! So the Shi'Ar come to Earth looking for Charles to bring him back and fix the problem he caused. Upon leaving he gives Scott, Cyclops, full and complete control of the X-Men and the School.

There is also a couple of pages used as setup for the first arc in Volume 2.

With one lone director in charge of the Consortium, we don't know who it is though, she lets SHIELD know that the X-Men are no longer to be trusted and something has to be done, and then SHIELD gets the Avengers on the case, and with the recent death of both Tony Stark and Hank McCoy, The Avengers want answers for the actions.

Sadly, I feel the Shi'Ar story was really lackluster. I know alot of people were excited about Mike Grell doing pencils but I feel his work did not suit the story at all. It was often muddy looking, mostly sketched with harsh inks over top that made everyone look stiff and the action look cut and paste.

Complaining about Claremont's writing at this point is pretty much moot. If you have come this far in the series, you are most likely enjoying what he is doing. One thing that I have notice now, is that every so often he uses the phrase, "How's By You?". I have never heard this expression before and every time I read it, it really jars me out of the story and makes me question an editor letting it pass. A minor quibble at best.

The preview for Volume 2 got me super psyched. Seeing how much influence the Consortium has over SHIELD is interesting, especially to the point of making SHIELD act on their behave. Also see The Avengers all assembled at the end was nice. I love bearded Thor and seeing Hawkeye all pissed off, almost demanding blood was cool. I think the first arc is gonna be pretty good.

Overall, is the Giant-Size X-Men Forever #1 worth it? Well, if you have been reading the book from the beginning, yes. If you are thinking of jumping on with Volume 2? Maybe not. I think new readers jumping on here might be slightly lost, best to wait for Volume 2 #1 next Wednesday is the better idea.
